My favorite garden tool

My favorite garden tool is not what you would first think of as a gardening tool…it’s my garden journal. I started my first garden journal in August of 2014, and my regular entries every couple of days help me organize and plan what I’m doing in the garden.
I’ve found little diagrams helpful to keep track of what I sow and plant, and when and where in the garden I put what…Plant markers get displaced or wear off, and it’s helpful to have an idea what was sown where…
Most importantly, it’s both my failures as well as my successes that help me and my garden grow, if I take the time to look back at them and understand how and why…and my journal is my best tool for doing that.

I honor my garden by writing in a beautiful journal – not just scraps of paper or an old discarded notebook – that makes writing about my garden special … I usually journal at the end of the day, and I make special notes of when I sow, transplant, fertilize or spray with Neem oil… it’s easy then to check back and see when the next treatment is due, or when it’s time to fertilize again… I don’t make it a chore… I keep my journal next to my recliner…It’s become part of the rhythm of my life, and I grow from it, along with my vegetables!
